Introduction

The purpose of this Blog is to keep an update on the progress of my Land Rover which is currently being put back on the road. Latest updates and pictures will be added as progress is made.

The land rover was bought towards the end of July 2006, i found it on ebay going for a very good price and was local to me being in Warrington. It is a 1971 Series 3 Model, with a 2.286 ltr petrol engine.
Overall the land rover is in very good condition, the chassie has not had any welding done so far, and has no rust what so every (the previous owner told me it was stripped down and repainted / clean up). The paint is starting to flake off now but overall it is in good nick. The rear cross member is the only bit of the chassie requiring some attention.
The bulk head again is in good condition, only the passenger side footwell needs some work, but this isnt that bad so will get away with plating it rather than replacing the whole thing. The drivers side had been done already, together with the door pillar.

The engine is sweat, she starts up first time and sounds a dream. The head is currently an un-leaded head, but reading posts and advice i am going to run for a while on leaded or lrp until this needs replacing. The gear box has a bit of a wine (dont they all), but this will get a fresh oil change and we will go from there.
The only other initial problem i could find was that the indicators are not working, the heater is seized solid and the drivers side head lights dont work. This should be just a case of follow the wiring through, remove the instrument pannel etc and work it all out.

I personally am not sure if i like this, so i will see if it grows on me before converting back to standard. All the pictures are kept here and are always updated with new ones. Progress to Date

Rear Floor removal - The rear floor was removed for a couple of reasons, first the previous owner had made a new floor which was fitted on to of the old rotten original one. So i could remove the old one to allow me to get access to the chassie (to re-rub down and paint) and also aid in the welding of the rear cross member. Removing the floor was a right pain, it was all riverted in so these needed to be drilled out all the way along. One big advantage now is the new floor will be bolted in, so if i ever need to access underneith again it will be so much easier to remove.




Passenger Footwell - This has now been patched up, together with the door piller. I sort of cheated too, once it was welded i used sealer to go around the weld and along the seams, this will create a nice water tight seal and once painted will look nice and smooth (well it was my first welding experiance - pigeon poo comes to mind....). There is not really much more to say about the footwell, the pics below shows the before and after, nicely clean and painted. The intention is to paint the inside of the cab, this will be done once she is on the road.
