Lots of progress lately, had to move the LandRover to my dads for a couple of reasons, first he has a garage and a driver way (stone) to work on, where is was, it was just too boggy. Plus we also found that 3rd or 4th gear would not select no matter what we did. When i Dropped the gearbox oil, a couple bits of metal (gears) came out with it, so that was that, the gear box had to come out.

Over christmas i dropped the gearbox, after disconnecting and removing everything associated with it. See pictures below of the removed gear/transfer and drive box.

Further investigation into the box showed that the selector arm for 3rd and 4th gear had (for some reason?) broken and hence was jammed between the gears and stopping them being selected. The only way to get round this is a complete strip down and rebuild.
Back in July i managed to get hold of another gear box very cheap, we looked at this box, and decided that everything seems to be working fine, all the pannels were removed and everything checked visually. So we are currently in the progress of fitting this box into the landrover.
It was found that this box is actually a Series 2a gearbox. After a lot of research its found that this will be stronger (better for off roading) but ill have to learn how to double de-clutch. What it did mean though is we have to swop the bell housing over from my box to this new box.

Currently waiting for a couple parts before fitting this box in, i am also changing the clutch, the clutch release bearing, clutch presure plate, and the oil seal within the clutch housing.
